 Arts appreciation for all

Established in 1993, The Arts Society Kingsbridge, (formerly known as KEDFAS) is affiliated to the internationally recognised Arts Society based in London; an arts charity with a network of more than 90,000 members worldwide. (www.theartssociety.org.uk). We are a small friendly member society who all share a common interest to increase our understanding, knowledge and enjoyment of the arts in all it’s guises; whether fine, modern, decorative or performing.

Our varied programme runs from September to June, (excluding December) and comprises nine outstanding talks given by acclaimed lecturers. There are some 360 accredited lecturers who are all nationally and often internationally recognised experts in their fields and who have had to pass a rigorous selection process, they travel far and wide to share their specialist knowledge. They cover the widest range of art related topics from painting, sculpture and architecture to ceramics, glass, music and many more and are always informative, entertaining and inspirational. The talks are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Kingsbridge Methodist Church where we have a good audio visual system with a large screen. We meet at 2pm for tea and biscuits, before the lecture which starts at 2.30pm, it lasts approximately one hour, with time for questions afterwards.

In addition to the monthly lectures, we hold special interest Study Days and educational visits to a variety of places including historic houses, gardens and museums. Study Days, allow for a subject to be explored in greater depth, these typically include three talks given by one of The Arts Society lecturers interspersed with lunch and coffee. We also hold a Christmas lunch with a themed talk.  These events are usually very popular and much enjoyed.

In addition to the membership benefits of our Society, members  receive the quarterly Arts Society Review magazine and have access to everything that The Arts Society HQ offer which includes newsletters, Zoom talks and “The Arts Society Connected” a new website, which keeps members connected.

We are also part of the Arts Society South West region and our members can take part in any of the area’s activities, events and courses.

Membership is open to all. Non members are welcome at all our lectures for a donation of £10.00 which includes tea and biscuits and if you are tempted to join us on the day your £10 will be deducted from the membership fee.
